Hey Folks! Here is new feature we thought might be helpful - some information about stuff to do on the weekends here in Richmond, VA. If you don’t see your event posted here make sure you leave a comment so that everyone can see a) that you have excellent taste in blogs; and b) that you have something to share that might be a fun thing to do over the weekend.
Friday night (9/11/09) you could head over to The Camel for the Richmond Twestival (put together on Twitter) benefiting Tricycle Gardens. The event starts at 5:30 and goes until 8:30, leaving you plenty of time to go out and do other stuff. Tricycle Gardens (a forthcoming post, you can bet) is a group founded in 2001 – a bunch of Church Hill neighbors turned an abandoned lot into a lush organic garden. Raising money for this organization would help the organization build more gardens in urban areas. Plus, yummy veggies all year long? Sounds like a win.

For Saturday, you might feel like hitting up another charity event – the Benny-Fit for Hospice. It will begin at 7 PM at The Playing Field and will feature some of Richmond’s most classic punk bands from the 80′s – reunited for former Benny’s club owner Benny Waldbauer’s amazing vision – to have a hospice shelter in Richmond.
Waldbauer has been a hospice nurse for more than a decade, and it disturbs him mightily that there is no decent end-of-life care available for Richmonders who don’t have insurance or money. That’s what his Benny-Fit is for – to raise the money to create such a place. At only $10 per ticket, I don’t see how you could miss out on the opportunity to see Beex (RIP Craig and Christine) and White Cross perform again at long last (not to mention the amazing rest of the lineup, which we don’t have time to mention but are equally awe-inspiring) while supporting a worthwhile cause.

be there
If you can’t get tickets in time for the Benny-Fit, consider heading on down to The Canal Club for Richmond Varietease, a rocking and rollicking burlesque show that is fun, daring, and only $10 at the door.
