Scoot Richmond – One of Our Faves

Chelsea Lahmers has a lot to be proud of.  In 2002, when she started selling parts for vintage scooters, she became a reliable, savvy business owner with a loyal customer base.  That’s quite an accomplishment, considering she’d never run a business before.  Her business at that time was mainly mail-order, though she had a showroom in Richmond and business was growing even more.

If you’ve spent time in Richmond you’ve probably noticed that lots of people ride scooters and mopeds.  There is a reason for that.  It costs money to park at VCU and to park downtown.  LOTS of money.  Richmond City, in a startlingly progressive move, started providing free parking for scooters and mopeds in certain downtown areas.  So, if you’re a student at VCU or an employee east of Belvidere and you don’t want to pay more than $50 per month for parking, a scooter or a moped is a good choice for you.  As a grad student, believe me when I tell you I’m seriously considering one.

And if I were to buy a scooter, I’d buy one at Scoot! Scoot Richmond is the company that has evolved out of Chelsea Lahmer’s reputable mail order business.  Located in the historic Manchester district (right near Legend’s Brewery – stay tuned for a post on that, folks), Scoot sells Genuine Scooter Company, Carter Brothers/SYM, Tomos USA, and Sachs/ Peirspeed brands, plus some awesome gear and accessories.  Plus, if you’re looking for a more vintage-type ride, Scoot can find it for you.

Scoot also features a service department, where you can get your ride worked on for a very reasonable price.  Scoot is dedicated to Richmond’s scooter community.  We’d dare say that they could be the Southeast’s Scooter Mecca.  Their website features a blog that provides some great information about scooter safety, theft trends in the area, and lots of other good stuff.  Plus, they host a monthly Scoot-In movie night where you can mingle and meet other folks who like to scoot.

Check out this Richmond business, even if you’re not in the market for a scooter or moped.  Stop by and check out the merchandise, have lunch at Savor or Legend’s (don’t worry – information pending!), and enjoy the historic Manchester district.
