Tony’s 4th Street Grill
The 4th Street Cafe, at East Main Street and East Franklin Street, is open 24 hours a day on the weekends.
A truly good writer would start this post with something dramatic, and as it so happens, I have a rather dramatic story about 4th Street Cafe, which was Tony’s 4th Street Grill’s predecessor. First, though, you have to make a firm delineation between the CAFE and the GRILL. The GRILL is what this post is about, the CAFE is what my dramatic story is about.
So, dramatic story: it was 3AM, and it had been a long night. The group stumbled into 4th Street CAFE. It was open. While waiting for Reuben and Club sandwiches, a younger, much thinner me and my friends glanced around the room. I inadvertently dropped my scarf on the floor (it was winter) and when I leaned down to pick it up I found myself eye to eye with a rat the size of a chihuahua. True story. Needless to say, I didn’t stick around for my sandwich.
Now, Tony’s 4th Street GRILL is a completely different story. Renovated in Spring 08 and reopened in Summer 08, Tony’s is spotlessly clean. Squeaky clean (pun not intended), and full of some great eats and great people. This place is the polar opposite of that dirty diner so many years ago. It is a place where it’s clear that the owner and staff take a great amount of pride in the place, the food, and their work.
They take a lot of pride in their town, as well. They buy their produce from local growers. They get fresh bread delivered from local bakeries. We need more places that support the local economy like that.
Tony’s is open for breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday. Check it out in all its newly renovated cleanness and tastiness.
